World Vision Philippines seeks 1,000 new child sponsors by Christmas
November 18, 2006
World Vision Philippines, together with its first Asia Regional Child Ambassador Jerry Yan, will embark on a Christmas campaign looking for 1,000 new child sponsors in the Philippines commencing Nov. 21 until Dec. 25.
World Vision is a child-focused Christian, development, advocacy and relief organization that helps over 100 million people in 96 countries last year alone. It is one of the world's largest child sponsorship agencies, with basic child education as its foremost initiative.
Asian superstar Jerry Yan will visit Manila and World Vision project areas on Dec. 8-10 to spend some time with Filipino-sponsored children and to raise public awareness on child sponsorship in the country. His visit to the Philippines is part of his 8 World Vision office Asian tour, which began in Mongolia last week of October followed with visits in Taiwan and Japan. Next on his itinerary will be visits to Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Korea, the Philippines and Thailand.
New World Vision child sponsors starting Nov. 21 will be given the chance to meet Jerry Yan at a press conference upon his arrival in Manila and at a thanksgiving dinner prior his flight to Thailand. This opportunity will only be made available to the first 500 child sponsors who signed up within the campaign period.
Jerry Yan, along with local celebrities Kris Aquino, Miriam Quiambao, Karen Davila, Christian Bautista, Sam Concepcion, among others, joins more than three million World Vision child sponsors in supporting poor children around the globe. He currently sponsors three children in Mongolia named Dorjtovuu, Ragchaasuren and Yanjinsuren.
"For the first time, I realized the value of my life," said Jerry Yan after bidding farewell to his sponsored children from Mongolia in his inaugural trip as World Vision Child Sponsorship Ambassador.
Despite the bitter cold and wind burnt face, he was deeply moved meeting his sponsored children in Mongolia for the first time. "Honestly, I'm the one who received the most blessing from this," shared Jerry Yan.
He has seen for himself how child sponsorship helps keep a child in school, provide for the child's basic needs including healthcare, potable water and food. Through holistic development, the child will be able to live and grow in a happier and healthier environment.
n the Philippines, World Vision assists over 120,000 children in 34 provinces and 22 cities across the nation. Nearly 10,000 Filipinos are engaged in giving a life-changing investment to 11,797 children through child sponsorship. For only P15 a day or P450 a month, a Filipino child's life is transformed and his/her future is secured.
